GETTING ALONG WITH PEOPLESo what if others don't behave according to my standards/expectations. As long as they aren't infringing on my legitimate rights, why waste my time being judgemental. Since we all see life differently, we tend to behave differently. I accept others as being different. Rather than engaging in futile attempts to control others, I will focus on the one thing over which I have total control...my reactions. The more freedom I give others to be themselves, the more freedom I will have for myself. I resign as general manager of the universe. "Acceptance of others, their looks, their behaviors, their beliefs, brings you an inner peace and tranquillity -- instead of anger and resentment." (Unknown) "Your neighbor's vision is as true for him as your own vision is true for you." (Miguel de Unamuno) "Toleration is the best religion." (Victor Hugo) "If a man does not keep pace with his companions perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." (Henry David Thoreau) "Tolerance and celebration of individual differences is the fire that fuels lasting love." (Tom Hannah) "The highest result of education is tolerance." (Helen Keller) "The test of courage comes when we are in the minority; the test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority." (Ralph W. Stockman) "Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?" (Henry David Thoreau) "I have no methods; all I do is accept people as they are." (Dr. Paul Tournier) "The best position is one of noninterference with another's peculiar ways of being happy, provided those ways do not interfere by violence with yours." (William James) "Look at people; recognize them, accept them as they are, without wanting to change them." (Helen Beginton) "A major advantage of age is learning to accept people without passing judgement." (Liz Carpenter) "No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside. We cannot open the gate of another, either by argument or by emotional appeal." (Marilyn Ferguson) "We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same." (Ann Frank) "Judge not, that ye be not judged." (Matthew 7:1/Holy Bible) "One has only to grow older to become more tolerant. I see no fault that I might not have committed myself." (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) "... even if you can't make people like you, at least you can try to see things from their point of view." (Joan Webb-Ewen) "The motto should not be: Forgive one another; rather, Understand one another." (Emma Goldman) "Compassion can never coexist with judgement because judgement creates the distance, the distinction, which prevents us from really being with the other." (Henri Nouwen) "Real magic in relationships means an absence of judgment of others." (Wayne Dyer) "Even God doesn't plan to judge a man till the end of his days, why should you and I?" (Source Unknown) "I have a thing with the camera. The lens is unconditional. It doesn't judge you." (Debra Winger) "Many people love in themselves what they hate in others." (Benzel Sternan) "People don't change their behavior unless it makes a difference for them to do so." (Fran Tarkenton) |
