IMPATIENCESo what if things don't happen as fast as I would like them to. That's no reason to frustrate myself. I am reminded of the many times I've wanted something/someone intensely...didn't succeed...and eventually ended up with something/someone much better. During those moments, I realized that I was actually grateful that I didn't get what I originally wanted so badly. The message in popular sayings such as: "God's delays are not God's denials"; "Let go and let God" and "All things are working together for my good" become so much clearer. I have learned to replace impatience and frustration with faith, hope, trust and optimism. Life can be so enjoyable and manageable when we take it one day at a time...one step at a time...one task at a time. "Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience." (Ralph Waldo Emerson) "He who is hurried cannot walk gracefully." (Chinese Proverb) "Patience is bitter but its fruit is sweet." (French Proverb) "With time and patience the mulberry leaf becomes a silk gown." (Chinese Proverb) "There is no royal road to anything, one thing at a time, all things in succession. That which grows fast, withers as rapidly. That which grows slowly, endures." (Josiah Gilbert Holland) "The three P's of success: passion, persistence and patience." (Doug Bronson) "The greatest power is often simple patience." (E. Joseph Cossman) "There is no road too long to the man who advances deliberately and without undue haste; there are no honors too distant to the man who prepares himself for them with patience." (Jean De La Bruyere) "The secret to patience is doing something else in the meanwhile." (Unknown) "Meanwhile, do something worthwhile." (L. M. Heroux) "Patience is the ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears." (Barbara Johnson) "When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." (Franklin D. Roosevelt) "The keys to patience are acceptance and faith. Accept things as they are, and look realistically at the world around you. Have faith in yourself and in the direction you have chosen." (Ralph Marston) "The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it." (Arnold H. Glasgow) "No greater thing is created suddenly, any more than a bunch of grapes or a fig. If you tell me that you desire a fig, I answer you that there must be time. Let it first blossom, then bear fruit, then ripen." (Epictetus) "To him that waits all things reveal themselves, provided that he has the courage not to deny, in the darkness, what he has seen in the light." (Coventry Patmore) "Some things arrive in their own mysterious hour, on their own terms and not yours, to be seized or relinquished forever." (Gail Goodwin) "Life is all about timing... the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable... attainable. Have the patience, wait it out It's all about timing." (Stacey Charter) "Consider the hour-glass; there is nothing to be accomplished by rattling or shaking; you have to wait patiently until the sand, grain by grain, has run from one funnel into the other." (John Christian Morgenstern) "Never think that God's delays are God's denials. Hold on; hold fast; hold out. Patience is genius." (Comte de Buffon) "Patience is the key to contentment." (Mohammed) "Everything comes to him who waits." (Proverb) "Our patience will achieve more than our force." (Edmund Burke) "Let this be understood, then, at starting; that the patient conquest of difficulties which rise in the regular and legitimate channels of business and enterprise is not only essential in securing the success which you seek but it is essential to that preparation of your mind, requisite for the enjoyment of your successes, and for retaining them when gained. So, day by day, and week by week; so month after month, and year after year, work on, and in that process gain strength and symmetry, and nerve and knowledge, that when success, patiently and bravely worked for, shall come, it may find you prepared to receive it and keep it." (Josiah Gilbert Holland) "Patience permits us to cling to our faith in the Lord when we are tossed about by suffering as if by surf. When the undertow grasps us we will realize that we are somehow being carried forward even as we tumble. We are actually being -helped even as we cry for help." (Neal A. Maxwell) "If I have made any valuable discoveries, it has been owing more to patient attention than to any other talent." (Sir Isaac Newton) "Patience in the present, faith in the future, and joy in the doing." (George Perera) "In any contest between power and patience, bet on patience." (W. B. Prescott) "Rome was not built in a day." (Proverb) "An ounce of patience is worth a pound of brains." (Dutch Proverb) "There are times when God asks nothing of his children except silence, patience and tears." (C. S. Robinson) "Only those who have the patience to do simple things perfectly will acquire the skill to do difficult things easily." (Johann Friedrich Von Schiller) "Avoid being impatient. Remember time brings roses." (Source Unknown) |
